Dragon Boat paddlers welcome to join Canoe-Kayak, but…

POC President Jose "Peping" Cojuangco and PSC Chair Richie Garcia discusses the Philippine Dragon Boat issue on ANC's Hardball.

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Jose Cojuangco said the Philippine Canoe-Kayak Federation (PCKF) is open to welcome the successful Philippine Dragon Boat paddlers into its fold.
“Walang problema sa paddlers,” said the former Tarlac congressman. “There's no restriction to the paddlers.”
He, however, said in an interview on ANC’s Hardball that the paddlers will likely have to undergo time trials when they join the PCKF.
Cojuangco said that he asked the PCKF to conduct individual time trials for each of its athletes to make sure that every member is fit and can contribute for a sure victory in Olympic events.
“Because sometimes you have a 20-man dragon boat team that's very good. There could be 2 or 3 of them that are not really that good. So you want to put maybe better paddlers [in their place],” he said.
“That's going to be our policy now. It's no longer you won medals before so you automatically join the SEAG,” said Cojuangco.
Cojuangco explained that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that the paddler’s mother group, the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF), be place under the PCKF.
“I think what they're (IOC) looking at is to put them together because they're doing the same thing, they're rowing they're paddling forward, facing the direction,” said the POC chief.
Cojuangco added that it will be easier to enforce chances in their training regimen if the paddlers and the kayakers are place under one federation.
He said the Dragon Boat team only finished 2nd and 3rd in all events in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games, which is why they should undergo special type of training.
“That's why I've been trying to push for a change in our methods of training because we always lack the stamina. If we can put people together it's much easier,” he said.
“Even now, we're having such a hard time, some people are training here, some people are training there. It's so hard to get them together, even to feed them is most difficult, how do you serve them the right food in different places?” added Cojuangco.
The PDBF is refusing to join the PCKF because members of each federation belong to two different disciplines.
PDBF President Marcia Cristobal also asserted that their group is one of the founding members of the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF), the world's governing body for the sport of dragon boat.

THIS IS FUCKIN' LOAD OF CRAP!!! FOR REAL? TIME TRIALS FOR THE 3 TIME DEFENDING CHAMPIONS TO HAVE THEM JOIN YOUR WINLESS GROUP OF KAYAKERS?! PEPING COJUANCO IS FULL OF SHIT!
